Esri builds geographic information system software and location intelligence tools that let organisations analyse and visualise data on maps, under the banner it calls The Science of Where. Founded in 1969 and based in Redlands, California, it says its technology is used by roughly 33,000 businesses, 1,200 national government agencies, 30,000 cities and local governments and 12,200 nonprofits. It remains privately held and has never taken outside funding.
